department on friday. yesterday was her first official day on the job. she and two other officers were responding to a domestic disturbance when shots were fired... the suspect - 32-year-old ronald hamilton - is in the prince william county adult detention center without bond. he's facing multiple charges that include murder of a law enforcement officer. / paul ebert/ common wealth attorney he will probably be arraigned tomorrow morning. he's in custody at this time being held without bond. as i said investigation is going forward and there may be other charges forth- coming." we know the two other officers are still in the hospital at this time. according to our n-b-c affiliate in washington - hamilton is an active duty army staff sergeant assigned to the joint staff support center at the pentagon. here locally - police departments are sending their condolences. virginia beach police say - "we offer our most sincere condolences to the guindon family, the prince william county police department and the entire p-w-c community."

as another virginia politician is stumping for hillary clinton this weekend - ahead of super tuesday. senator tim kaine worked the phones at a get-out-the-vote event in norfolk - and made a stop in hampton this afternoon. kaine also attended canvassing events in northern virginia and charlottesville. yesterday, we told you congressman bobby scott is supporting the former secretary of state as well. senator kaine says virginia is becoming an increasingly more contentious state in the election season. sen. tim kaine/d-virginia 17:13:42 up to 2008 we were kind of irrelevant in presidential politics but now we're seen as one on our shoulders to participate. 17:13:52 according to hillary's camp - more than 40 democrats in the virginia general assembly plan to back clinton. at least three presidential candidates will stop in hampton roads in the next few days. marco rubio is holding a rally at the

lane near picadilly lane. the child was taken to sentara norfolk general. we're working to find out the condition of the child shot. an 18-year-old man is in the hospital after someone shot him in newport news. it's a story we first brought to you as breaking news at the end of wavy news 10 at 11. police say the man from carrollton got shot in the leg on jefferson avenue near dresden drive around 11 last night. they say he's expected to recover. police are still looking for whoever shot him. also in newport news -- someone shot a 19- year-old man twice in the leg. this one happened on 25th street just before 12:30 yesterday afternoon. the victim went to the hospital - but is expected to live. if you have information about any of these shootings - call the crime line. an ohio pastor is dead after being shot inside his church during a service this morning. dayton police say william schooler had just walked back to the pulpit inside zion baptist church when the shooter got out of a pew and followed him. witnesses say they heard a couple of shots fired

singing, and it quickly became chaos when everyone took off running. more than 20 people were inside the church at the time. the shooter is believed to be schooler's brother, and police are investigating a possible motive. services at the church were canceled for the rest of the day. the portsmouth-based coast guard cutter forward is back home. this is video of it returning earlier this morning. crew members were gone for two months in the western and central caribbean. the crew worked with multiple countries. forward also acted as the lead during joint search efforts for a capsized nicaraguan tour boat in february. 10 on your side is digging into what's being around the campus of old dominion university. many we talked to say - the off campus housing areas are dangerous. last fall - they proved university student and a navy off-campus shootings. after that, city leaders and school officials promised to team up - to fight the crime. tune in tomorrow for my

thirty-six people are presumed dead after a coal mine collapse in northern russia. rescue operations are still underway after a methane gas leak triggered three explosions and caused parts of the mine to collapse. two powerful explosions at the mine on friday killed four and trapped 26 others more than two-thousand feet underground. a third explosion early today killed five rescue workers and a mine worker. at the time of today's blast, 110 miners were underground. eighty were rescued. still ahead - elephant tantrum - we'll show you the video of one elephant losing its
